Candy, thank you for your interest and concern for Nancy's surgery which was supposed to take place today at noon at Methodist North Hospital on Covington Pike. We arrived at the hospital at 9:30 AM as scheduled and Nancy was preparing for the event when we learned that over 6 procedures scheduled were cancelled because of a "utility emergency" which is raw sewage in the operating room area. Meth North personnel tried to move procedures to Meth Germantown before cancelling. We have been waiting to hear from her doctor or his assistant ever since about rescheduling but so far no word. We'll keep you posted. Dan |

The News Channel 3 team has some sad news to report today. Long-time commentator and political analyst Norm Brewer has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Through his health problems, Norm continued to deliver his daily news commentaries as he had since 1995. He said that coming into the newsroom helped keep him going. He also served as a political analyst, with the Commercial Appeals Otis Sanford on election night and during debates. We all remember his commentary as he sat holding a rolled sheet of paper, discussing just about any issue whether it was the Memphis City School system or words uttered by former Memphis mayor Herenton. WREG-TV President and General Manager Ron Walter issued the following statement: "We at WREG News Channel 3 are deeply saddened by the news of Norm Brewer's passing. Norm was at the forefront of serious discussions about important community matters and politics. He invariably offered provocative, knowledgeable and thoughtful perspectives. No matter how powerful an official or redoubtable an institution, Norm never shied away from taking decisive positions he felt were proper and in the best interest of Memphis, the state and nation. He was what good journalism is all about. He will truly be missed by not only us at WREG News Channel 3, but also the many viewers who looked forward to his crisp and informative daily commentaries." |

The last period Art class went to the auditorium and worked on the floats for several weeks before the parade. The ones I remember are Mary Nell Parks (McNeil) Gordon Herren, Bobbie Gladden, MarteneColeman (Maddinger). There were others but after almost 60 years that all I remember. I was on the floor playing the guitar to the girl on the balcony. What great fun we had! Jay Kennedy |

Hi Mary Nell, I visited the Tech1952 Website and saw your notice that George Harmon had died. A tribute to George Harmon may be found by Millsaps College. I think his Tech High classmates might be interested in that tribute. George was my wrestling coach when I was at Tech. Go to millsaps.edu and type George Harmon in the faculty search at the top of the screen. I tried to include the tribute in this email but was unsuccessful. As you can see, he was well regarded by his faculty and friends at Millsaps College. Thanks, Mason Richard (Sam's little brother) |

E-Mail from Candy Yesterday, I received one of the saddest Christmas cards of my life. Our classmate, Patty Finch McEndarffer, wrote that her husband, Jack, had passed away very suddnly on November 4, in Zapata, Texas They had been married 57 wonderful years.. Jack was taken to Kansas, where he received a full Military Service. Pat will remain with children in Kansas until after the first of the year, at which time she will return to Texas, for the Winter. Please keep Pat and her family in your prayers. I was able to speak with her yesterday, for a short time and I have sent a card from the class. |
